Aliesha Higgins Participates in Bark for Life

2016 Nov 25

A group of students from Lakeview College of Nursing, including Aliesha Higgins from Gays, IL, contributed to the fundraising efforts of the American Cancer Society by participating in the fall Bark for Life event that was held in Champaign, IL.

Bark for Life is a spin off of the Relay for Life and it allows dogs to participate. The activities included an agility course, raffles and a photo booth. There was also a musical sit and stay game as well as a treat walk.

The Lakeview students decided to participate in the event because each member has been effected either directly or indirectly by cancer. A couple of the goup members have grandparents who have fought the disease and one student, Sasha Edwards, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2008. She said, "The American Cancer Society is an amazing organization that is near and dear to everyone's heart because it helps loved ones fight the hardest battle of their life." Edwards mentioned that she participated in the "Look Good, Feel Better" program and that it helped her cope with losing her hair and establish a support group.

Lakeview College of nursing has provided excellence in nursing education since 1894. Lakeview currently offers a bachelor of science in nursing degree program in Charleston as well as Danville, IL.
