Lakeview College of Nursing Honors Rita Wallace of Marshall, IL with Flame Award

Danville, IL (06/18/2021) — Lakeview College of Nursing recently honored Rita Wallace with a Flame Award at the College's spring graduation ceremony. Wallace of Marshall, IL, is an associate professor at Lakeview College of Nursing.

Wallace was happy to receive the award. She said, "It was wonderful to be honored in this way."

Lanette Stuckey, Dean of Lakeview's nursing program, said, "Professor Wallace has a contagious passion for nursing and nursing education. With over 30 years of experience as a nurse, Rita has been and continues to be a very knowledgeable and caring nurse. We are so glad that she is sharing all of that knowledge and caring with our students on a daily basis."

Stuckey went on to explain that the Flame Award was created because the College's administration wanted a way to honor and recognize a faculty member who has demonstrated a commitment to high-quality nursing care through their years of experience.

The award itself was inspired by Lakeview's logo. The logo is an evolution of three symbolic components, one of them being the flame, according to Stuckey. "The flame honors Florence Nightingale's passion for excellence in the healthcare field and that we may model ourselves after her efforts," said Stuckey.

Wallace earned her associate degree in nursing from Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, IL. She went on to earn both a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master of science in nursing education from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN. Over the years, Wallace has provided a wide range of professional nursing care in the areas of surgical urology, oncology, gynecological surgery, emergency, medical-surgical, step-down intensive care, and open-heart surgery recovery.

Currently, Wallace serves as nursing simulation and skills lab coordinator at Lakeview's Charleston Campus. She has been employed at Lakeview College of Nursing since 2007. During that time, she has taught lecture courses such as Foundations In Nursing, Health Assessment, Leadership and Management, Population and Global Health, and has also served as a clinical instructor and on a variety of College committees.
