Military Nursing, Service Project Presentations Highlighted at Upcoming Event

Lakeview College of Nursing to Host Research Day

Danville, IL (10/31/2017) — Lakeview College of Nursing will be hosting a Research Day on Friday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to Noon at the Wyndham Garden Hotel located at 1001 West Killarney St., Urbana, IL. The event's theme will be military nursing and it will also spotlight two service projects completed by groups of students who are slated to graduate in December.

Navy Lieutenant Commander Richard Clapp, who is a certified nurse practitioner and a board-certified acute care nurse practitioner, will be speaking about military nursing beginning at 9 a.m. Clapp is a "dynamic speaker who will make you excited about your future learning opportunities," according to Rita Wallace, who holds a master's degree in nursing education as a Lakeview faculty member and is one of the event's organizers.

Wallace said she is also anxious to see students present their service projects. Senior-level students are assigned a group legacy project. The project is a way for students to give back to the community and work together as a team. One group project from each of Lakeview's Danville and Charleston Campuses will present their legacy project at the Research Day event, according to Wallace.

The projects being presented this fall are for Bright Minds, whose mission focuses on providing assistance to autistic children from ages 3 to 21; and Hooves of Hope, whose mission is to provide children and adults, with diverse needs, a solid foundation for developing life skills through equine assisted activities and therapies. These presentations will begin at approximately 11 a.m. with a possible special appearance by a live miniature horse.

Additional Research Day activities will include raffles and a career fair with representatives from local hospitals and healthcare agencies. They will be providing information on internship, externship and job opportunities to all of Lakeview's students, who are required to attend the event.

Limited space is available for members of the general public to attend. Anyone with an interest should contact Wallace at 217-709-0789.

*Photo and video opportunities are available to the media at the event.
